Who can join?
We truly welcome anyone interested in the teaching or study of the Japanese language and culture to become a member of AFTJ upon payment of annual dues. Members need to pay their $45 membership fees to the AATJ (American Association of Teachers of Japanese) online and select the AFTJ as their local affiliate. Then, the AFTJ will receive $15 per member from the AATJ. We also accept support members and student members for small membership fees ($10.00 for supporters and $5.00 for students). Why should I join?
AFTJ, the Association of Florida Teachers of Japanese, Inc is a non-profit (Chap. 617) Florida registered educational, organization devoted to the study, teaching, and appreciation of Japanese language and culture. Our purpose is to encourage, support, sustain, and improve the teaching of Japanese at all levels of instruction in Florida, and to promote a cooperative spirit through the exchange of ideas and cordial fellowship among its members as well as to serve the community interests.
Since its incorporation in 1995, this organization has been holding semi-annual meetings, and presenting many workshops for the members and communities.
The AFTJ sponsors annual regional events such as “Japanese Speech and Skit Contest” and “Japanese Cultural Immersion Day” for secondary school and university students each year. We also offer scholarships to our student members.

How can I join?
If you would like to become an AFTJ member and belong to the AATJ (American Association of Teachers of Japanese), please send the membership application to the AATJ or pay online (Please make sure that you select “Florida (AFTJ)” as the local affiliate).
If you wish to become a member of AFTJ ONLY (without being an AATJ member), please download and fill in the membership form here, and contact our treasurer, Nourishirazi-sensei ([email protected]) to pay the membership fee ($15). We accept the payments of Zelle, Venmo, and personal checks.
